Sephora and ULTA Haul!

I Bought This

Hi guys! Today is just a quick post to show what I picked up during the recent Sephora VIB sale and ULTA sale. Also, I just found out that Skinfood makes darker shades of their Peach Sake Pore BB cream, so I also picked one of those up because reasons. In summation… I now have way more base makeup than any sane person will ever need in their lifetime. ::O:

Do you ever find yourself in coveting phases? For me, I’m in a foundation/BB cream/skin tint/base makeup phase right now. I want ALL the foundations. A few months ago, it was brow products, and before that, it was lipsticks. Anyway, after I sat back and was twiddling my thumbs waiting for all these packages to arrive, I slowly realized just how many foundations I picked up and gave myself a mental whack on the head. You’ll see what I mean.

Sephora and ULTA Haul

Sorry for the quality of these pictures. I snapped them rather quickly so that I could dive straight into nicer pictures of the things I plan to review, thus allowing me to play with them ASAP.

First of all, here’s the ULTA haul and the Skinfood Peach Sake Pore BB cream in one pic. The Skinfood I bought from Urban Outfitters, but it seemed stupid to include that in its own picture… I’ll bold the items I plan on reviewing.

Sephora and ULTA Haul

I hauled:
Real Techniques Core Collection
Real Techniques Starter Kit
Real Techniques Setting Brush
NYX Mineral Stick Foundation in MSF08 Warm Tan
NYX Mineral Stick Foundation in MSF09 Caramel
Skinfood Peach Sake Pore BB Cream in #5 Honey Beige

Neutrogena Hydrating Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes (not pictured, as I already broke into them)

By the way, I had the STUPIDEST experience with Urban Outfitters customer service. UO is a company that I generally avoid because I don’t agree with many of their business practices, but I can admit that I’m a hypocrite at the best of times. I broke down to pick this Skinfood BB up, and I realized, literally 30 seconds after ordering, that I’d chosen the wrong shade. (My mistake, but honestly, their website is not the greatest. It is not fully compatible with Chrome, so I had to switch to Firefox, and even then, it doesn’t tell you which shade you were choosing. You just clicked a swatch and hoped that was the one you needed! Which, in my case, it wasn’t.) As it was already evening, I immediately emailed customer service to ask if they could switch it out before shipping.

Now, let me break and say something mildly relevant to the story: in my current job, part of my duties include basic help desk support, such as resolving technical issues with our systems. Before that, I worked in the service industry, waiting tables, as well as retail. I understand, intimately, the struggles of a customer-facing position, but at the same time, I understand what it is to do that job well — that is, to give good customer service.

So, I ordered and subsequently emailed Urban Outfitters CS on Tuesday night. I had not even yet received an order confirmation email when I messaged UO CS. I did not expect an immediate reply, and left the issue until morning. Wednesday came and went, and I didn’t hear anything. Thursday, I received a shipment confirmation of my order, but it did not state which shade I was receiving. On Friday afternoon, I received a reply from UO support stating that, get this, as the order had already shipped, they would not be able to make changes.

WELL OF F*CKING COURSE NOT.

Had they responded in a reasonable time frame, they might have been able to resolve the issue. I would even have understood if the CS department had responded to me on Wednesday and said, “Unfortunately, the shipping department works quickly and separately from the CS department, so they have already prepared your package for shipment and it cannot be changed.”
I really would have, and you know why? Not only because of my past jobs in customer service, but mostly because I got free shipping on my order, and free returns. Ultimately, I am not out any money or even time for what is, admittedly, my mistake, as I was able to use the prepaid return label to just pop the package straight back into my mailbox.

Urban Outfitters is quite literally paying for my mistake, and they could have resolved the freaking matter if their CS department weren’t so bloody slow. When I email Amazon, Steam, Nintendo support, etc. I receive a response within hours or even minutes. Heck, when I’m ordering indie cosmetics from a one-woman operation, I get responses to my emails quicker than that. I understand some CS departments treat email as low-priority, but 3 days turn-around?

Seriously, am I being unreasonable here? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. :nope:

Anyway, after getting that email response and fuming a bit, I immediately ordered the correct shade and I will be reviewing that shortly. Whew. ::x: I went all Angry Chuchu on you for a second.

Let’s move on to happier things, such as the Sephora haul!

Sephora and ULTA Haul

I hauled:
Shiseido The Makeup Stick Foundation in I40 Natural Fair Ivory (are you sensing a theme here?)
NARS Radiant Cream Compact Foundation – Empty Compact
NARS Radiant Cream Compact Foundation Refill in Barcelona

beautyblender in Royal
Shiseido Eyelash Curler (replacing my beloved and *cough* well-worn shu uemura eyelash curler)

And I received samples of the Josie Maran Pure Argan MilkĀ™ Intensive Hydrating Treatment, Dior Hydra Life BB Creme and Kat Von D Unlock-It Makeup Remover Wipes.

I know to some people this may not seem like a lot, but as I mentioned in my Etude House Baby Choux Base review, I am normally very frugal. In fact, my Sephora BI account shows that this is the single largest purchase I’ve made in at least the past three years, and possibly this is my biggest haul of all time in terms of price. However, I did not pay full price for these, as I used the VIB code as well as cashback rewards from my credit card, so I feel a little bit better about that.

And yes, if you’re keeping track, I bought 5 different base makeup products. As my mother is fond of saying, I only have one face… Except except except, OK, I have a good reason! I bought the three stick foundations because I want to do a high-end/low-end comparison of them! I chose two in the NYX because I wanted a darker one to contour with. (I will also do a high-end/low-end comparison of the NYX HD Concealer Wand and the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer.) SO. Yeah. Totes justified.

Did you haul anything from the sales? What’s the biggest haul you’ve ever made?

By the way, my biggest haul of all time was probably when I was still in my extreme couponing phase. This was before the show Extreme Couponers began to air, and so couponing restrictions were still relatively favorable to couponers. I went to Rite Aid and hauled over $80 worth of Wet n Wild makeup (which, as WnW is a budget brand, is A. LOT.). After taking advantage of sales and coupons, I paid only $14, and received UP+ rewards (Rite Aid’s equivalent of cash coupons) for $10, thus making it only $4 out of pocket. Even my boyfriend, who was normally pretty embarrassed about my couponing habits, and the cashier were impressed.

That was a good day.
